Experience the internationally-acclaimed Garth Fagan Dance! Led by artistic director, Garth Fagan, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning choreographer of Broadway's The Lion King, the Company will showcase new works and revivals in celebration of their 40th Anniversary season. The New York Times has described Fagan's work as "unfailingly original" and selected his piece, Mudan 175/39 as the third top dance moment in 2009. February 24, 8:00pm–9:00pm Fine Arts Series Presents: Kurt Rosenwinkel and the One O'clock Lab Band Winspear Hall, Murchison Performing Arts Center

Kurt Rosenwinkel is known for his distinct sound and style of improvisation that is influenced by artists as diverse as Allan Holdsworth, George Van Eps, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Bud Powell, Elmo Hope, and the Notorious B.I.G. In 1995 he won the composer's Award from the National Endowment for the Arts and was eventually signed by Verve Records. Since then he has played and recorded as both leader and sideman with Mark Turner, Brad Mehldau, and many others. Since coming together at the Yale School of Music in 1999, So Percussion has been creating music that is at turns raucous and touching, barbarous and heartfelt. Realizing that percussion instruments can communicate all the extremes of emotion and musical possibility, it has not been an easy music to define. Called "brilliant" by the New York Times, the Brooklyn-based quartet's innovative work with today's most exciting composers and their own original music has quickly helped them forge a unique and diverse career. Step Afrika is the first professional company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Founded in December 1994, the company is critically-acclaimed for its efforts to promote an understanding of and appreciation for stepping and the dance tradition's use as an educational tool for young people worldwide. Step Afrika reaches tens of thousands of Americans each year and has performed on many stages in North & South America, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. Step Afrika completes an annual 50-city tour of American colleges and universities from Maine to Mississippi.
