Activities & Entertainment

The University Union provides many programs and services essential to making life on campus more pleasant. The Union is never a dull place. It is possible, even in this vibrant atmosphere, to find a quiet spot to relax, grab a cup of coffee or quick snack, visit a new student organization, or take advantage of one of the many programs offered in the union.

A diverse population, a variety of programs and services, and a staff of dedicated people create a climate of comfort and community at the Union.

Spirit and Traditions

(Level 1) One O’Clock Lounge: An active lounge with terraced, carpeted seating. Plug in your lap top and rest a while and don’t forget to stop by every Thursday at noon and check out the tunes at noon performance by UNT’s own lab band groups. Free events are hosted all year long.

(Level 1) The Curfew Bell: The Spirit Bell was brought to Denton from Michigan in 1891. It was used to signal class changes and evening curfew.  By 1982, the bell was retired and the Talons fall pledge class of 1981 had it enshrined in the Union near the One O'clock Lounge, where it proudly stands as a symbol of NT tradition and pride.

(Level 2) War Memorial: Located between Eagle Express and the bookstore, the war memorial remembers all UNT students who have been lost during battle.

(Level 2 and 3) Centennial Clock: Donated by the Mortar Board Honor Society, the clock was commissioned to commemorate the University of North Texas’ centennial birthday.

(Level 3) Wall of Honor: Located between the Diamond and Golden Eagle Suites, the wall honors major financial contributors to the university.

Union Tree Lighting: Marking the beginning of the holiday season on campus, the annual tree lighting ceremony invites the campus to view the more than 30 foot-tall holiday tree during this celebration.

Union Fest: Scheduled for every March UnionFest is a free one-day blow out in the Union featuring tons of food, prizes, games, entertainment, and much more and honors the birthday of the Union at UNT.

Arts and Entertainment

(Level 1) The Syndicate : Enjoy live entertainment and special performances from on-campus and Denton-area artists. Featuring nine large screen televisions, regulation-sized billards tables, video games, and lots of space to hang out, the Syndicate is also home to Einstein Bros. Bagels, the newest addition of dining options. Rent the space for your next party or special event.

(Level 2) University Program Council (UPC): UNT’s only student-run programming board offers more than 100 premier programs and events throughout the year ranging from concerts and outings to movies and parties. You won’t want to miss out on any of these fun and exciting opportunities to meet cool people and get involved on campus.

(Level 3) Union Gallery: Exhibits feature students, faculty, and guest artists. The exhibits expose the campus community to new upcoming talent. Our staff helps new artists in the Annual Student Art Competition, held each spring. The Gallery is open for viewing during regular Union hours. For more information, please visit http://union.unt.edu/uniongallery

(Level 3) Lyceum Theater: Located adjacent to the Eagle Student Services Center entrance, the Lyceum Theater hosts a variety of events and presentations throughout the year from regular class lectures to small concerts and movie screenings.

Art within the building: More than 60 pieces of art are featured throughout the Union building. Spend a free moment browsing the unique examples of talent at UNT.

The Division of Student Affairs provides opportunities for students and the campus community to cultivate academic, personal, and professional success. We enhance the student experience through a wide array of intentional programs, services and activities that support the life cycle of our students.
