The University Union provides many programs and services essential to making life on campus more pleasant. The Union is never a dull place. A diverse population, a variety of programs and services, and a staff of dedicated people create a climate of comfort and community at the Union. It is possible, even in this vibrant atmosphere, to find a quiet spot to relax, grab a cup of coffee or quick snack, visit a new student organization, or take advantage of one of the many programs offered in the Union. As the "living room" of campus, the Union strives to enhance and enrich the lives of UNT students and the campus community.

According to the Association of College Unions International, "the union is the community center of the college, serving students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. By whatever form or name, a college union is an organization offering a variety of programs, activities, services, and facilities that, when taken together, represent a well-considered plan for the community life of the college.

The union is an integral part of the educational mission of the college.

• As the center of the college community life, the union complements the academic experience through an extensive variety of cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs. These programs provide the opportunity to balance course work and free time as cooperative factors in education.
• The union is a student-centered organization that values participatory decision-making. Through volunteerism, its boards, committees, and student employment, the union offers first-hand experience in citizenship and educates students in leadership, social responsibility, and values.
• In all its processes, the union encourages self-directed activity, giving maximum opportunity for self-realization and for growth in individual social competency and group effectiveness.

The union's goal is the development of persons as well as intellects.

Traditionally considered the 'hearthstone' or 'living room' of the campus, today's union is the gathering place of the college. The union provides services and conveniences that members of the college community need in their daily lives and creates an environment for getting to know and understand others through formal and informal associations.

The union serves as a unifying force that honors each individual and values diversity. The union fosters a sense of community that cultivates enduring loyalty to the college."

"The University Union is the living room of the campus. We are committed to providing services and programs that are education, cultural, social, and recreational and enhances the experiences of our university community.

Our commitment is realized when our guests are presented a clean, comfortable environment, staff by friendly, helpful people who provide quality services and programs at a reasonable price delivered in a timely fashion.

This commitment is ongoing as we pursue excellence in all that we do."

Ten facts about your University Union

• Not only does the University Union host many campus services and dining options, it also accommodates space for student meetings and functions.
• The Union is an extension of your college learning experience, a place to meet new people and take part in new and interesting programs.
• UNT's University Union was first formed as the Memorial Union, in honor of the men and women lost during wartime. The Memorial Wall, on level 2, currently pays tribute to our fellow Eagles who have served.
• The first college unions were available only for men. As more women pursued higher education in the early 1900s, some colleges opened separate union facilities for them. UNT's union has always been open to all members of the UNT community.
• UNT's student-led programming office, UPC, puts on more than 180 events and activities thanks largely to the suggestions made by UNT students.
• Civic leadership development is a primary role of the University Union. Programs and services are led in support of the UNT campus and the Denton community.
• The Union Gallery hosts a variety of student and community artists throughout each semester. It is a great free way to check out local art on your way to class.
• The University Union is so much more than a place to dine or pick up textbooks. UNT's Union is unique in offering an in-house graphic design studio, facility scheduling services complete with personal event coordinators, and postal service areas.
